

J.D. Funari is a Los Angeles-based senior trailer editor and creative lead in film and TV marketing. His work, spanning over two decades, has been featured on numerous AV campaigns for filmmakers such as Adam McKay, Steven Soderbergh, David Fincher, Denis Villeneuve, Alex Garland, Sam Esmail, and the late Jean-Marc Vallée.
Born and raised in Upstate New York, J.D. started shooting and editing short films in his teens, culminating with Evening Message in 2002, which was hailed by FilmThreat.com in a four star review as "...required viewing for any grass-roots filmmaker."
In 2009 J.D. edited the feature length screenwriting documentary Tales from the Script, directed by Peter Hanson. It was released theatrically in 2010 by First Run Features and went on to receive praise from national critics, earning a 75% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also profiled on Leonard Maltin's TV show Secret's Out and recommended on Twitter by Iron Man director Jon Favreau.
In 2012 J.D. began his tenure at Mark Woollen & Associates, one of Hollywood's premier movie marketing agencies. During this time, he edited Key Art and Golden Trailer award-winning trailers for movies such as Birdman, Bad Words, and Only God Forgives, as well as widely seen trailers for Fifty Shades of Grey, Ex Machina, and Sicario.
J.D. joined Netflix in 2019 as part of the newly formed Creative Studio, playing an integral role in shaping it into an industry-leading in-house promotional team. His work there features award-winning teasers and trailers seen by millions of members worldwide.
He has also shared his career and editing insights at industry events such as PromaxANZ in Sydney, Australia, Promax Europe’s virtual conference, and Film2Future’s The Art of Trailer Making for aspiring filmmakers.
Exposure, a short film J.D. directed, edited, and produced, debuted online after garnering multiple awards during a multi-year global festival run.
When not making trailers, J.D. can be found posting his outdoor and culinary adventures to Instagram, or chronicling his movie watching on Letterboxd.
